PROJECTS

The Airbox was an integral part of Sportswomen of the Year 2017. SKY Sports chose the AIRBOX as the venue had no truck parking available and a restricted rig and de rig schedule. The show consisted of 7 cameras including 3 RF links provided by Broadcast RF and 2 EVS recording and doing play-ins. There were over 14 radio mics on the show and the Sky Audio Supervisor mixed flawlessly on the Behringer mixer. The show was Live on Sky Sports and showed the glamour of a wonderful and important event for both the key sponsor The Sunday Times and of course Women’s Sport.

Here are some of the projects that the AirBox has undertaken so far.

CTV offers an infinitely scalable solution - from a 2 camera AirBox Fly-Pack, right up to a 30 camera Outside Broadcast.

Red Bull - Can You Make It? Iggy Pop @ Royal Albert Hall AIRBOX Launch BMW PGA Championship 2016 London Fashion Week Celebs Go Dating Airbox In Manchester Made In Chelsea Sky Sports Remote Production Royal Blood

The AirBox was set up in a central Paris studio, used as the base for Red Bulls 'Can You Make it?' event

The complex nature of the show, mean that OB style facilities were required, but in a small flypack setup. AirBox was deployed and spent 8 days broadcasting the biggest televised social media event - ever.

CTV provided all Vision, Audio and Camera Crew.

The AirBox was used for the recent Iggy Pop concert at the Royal Albert hall. Working alongside Red TX, CTV provided vision and audio crew for Splinter Films. Arri Amira and Alexa cameras were used, supervised by Brett Turnbull as DOP.

A great day at the Royal Institute. We had visitors from a host of independent production companies, broadcasters and industry colleagues. The event has sparked interest from across the industry, and we are dealing with an encouraging volume of enquiries.

Many thanks to those that attended, and we hope to see you all again soon.

The Airbox brought all elements of new technology together for the BMW PGA at The Wentworth Club. CTV OBs provided all on course coverage and the Airbox was used to facilitate Trackman, Protracer, Virtual Eye and Hawkeye with communications and monitoring.

The Airbox provided facilities for the MCM + Christopher Raeburn live webcast from London Fashion Week. The Airbox gallery was rigged in the Grand Connaught Rooms, right next to the action on the catwalk. A pleasure to work with Marcus Viner and Simon Fisher, and we hope to see them again soon.

AIRBOX helped find love recently on E4’s – Celebs Go Dating – production company Lime Pictures! AIRBOX was located in an exclusive house in central London where it supported minicams and a comprehensive audio spec!

AIRBOX went to up Manchester to host a demo at the end of September for the BBC. There was a fantastic attendance with lots of queries and questions! The variety of genres that were represented from the BBC proved that AIRBOX can be used for all sorts of productions from News to Live Sport!

The Airbox was used for the Made in Chelsea Christmas Special. The show was recorded in HD, with each of the 6 cameras, being ISO recorded onto EVS. The client took the full days rushes away on 1 drive. CTV also retained the footage on the EVS RAID drive system, until the client confirmed the safe transfer of all material. The system went down very well with the production crew, and we hope to see them all again. The camera operators particularly appreciated the HDC2500 cameras, saying it was just like having a CTV truck on the end of the cable.

The Airbox was used as the technical hub for the latest remote production OB for Sky Sports. The Director, EVS operators and Sound Mixer worked from Sky's base in Osterley, whilst the Airbox was on location for the World Championships of Ping Pong at Alexandra Palace. A ground breaking first, that is likely to shape the future of outside broadcasting in years to come.

Airbox provided the necessary integration for the live Virtual Reality Internet broadcast of the band Royal Blood at a Samsung event in Collins Music Hall, Islington.

A major part of the provision was the scalable communications system which allowed 18 talkback panels to be provided around the control room and elsewhere, giving each department a fully customisable comms solution for their part of the broadcast.

CTVs experience in live broadcasting translated well to the emerging technology, and we hope to see more of this exciting format.

THE TEAM

The AirBox has been designed and built by CTV's own engineering team. They provide full technical and operational support on and off site.

Ian Smith - Head of Sound

Ian has worked in Broadcast Sound for 28 years. He has designed audio and communications solutions for some of the UK's largest broadcast events. He has a team of 17 Audio Assistants and Guarantee Engineers, with a huge amount of experience in the field. Ian has ensured that audio and communications have been well taken care of in the AirBox, with the latest Digital Communications system, and a new 32 Channel Digital Audio Desk.

Paul Francis - Head of VT

Paul has worked for CTV since 1983. Paul heads up much of the system design and building at CTV. He also oversees the EVS & VT departments, working closely with suppliers like EVS to develop streaming and playback solutions for our clients. Paul is able to design innovative workflows to meet any client requirement, and coordinates with edit houses and broadcasters to ensure the smooth delivery of programs and rushes. Paul and his team are industry leaders in Streaming, VT and EVS operations – frequently proving their calibre onsite, in both Sports and LE environments.

David White - Head of Cameras

David has a team of young, experienced and talented operators and guarantees. These guys work across all genres of our work, and so are exposed to every style of operating. David and the team decided to base the AirBox around the Sony HDC2500 cameras, being the preferred choice of camera operators – with integral communications, tally and data in a 1 cable system. David is available to consult on any type of project and has looked after the camera teams on the smallest and largest of productions.

Richard Morton - Technical Supervisor

Richard is based in our High Wycombe office. He has a superb grasp of the data and programming aspect of broadcasting, and as such allows us to build our own bespoke equipment. This equipment has enabled us to provide solutions which would have been prohibitively expensive for a system with a price point like the AirBox.

Guy Ferguson - Head of Vision

Guy has been a Vision Engineer for many years. He and his crew of 14 Engineers frequently build complex systems for major UK and Worldwide events, like The Olympics, World Cup and The Open. As well as the system and technical side of any production, the vision engineers will ensure the pictures are colour matched to the highest standard, as seen on productions like The Bafta Film Awards and The Brits.

Dean Ruffy - Vision Supervisor

Dean has a background of touring and stage systems. He designed the casing and production elements of the AirBox, taking the best of what is available on the market, and combining it into one system. Dean is a talented engineer, and it’s very likely that you will meet him on the road with the system he helped to build.

When employing CTV, you have access to the following talent, to make sure your production runs smoothly:

Unit Managers

CTV has a team of 12 full time Unit Managers. They are responsible for the technical and logistic planning of CTVs broadcast events. These events include The London Marathon, 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, The Boat Race, The Open – a very small selection of the 100’s of events CTV undertakes each year. As a CTV client, you have immediate access to a CTV UM, who will advise you on many aspects of your production – and work with you to develop a reliable, rhobust and affordable solution for your production.

Production Managers

There are 11 Production Managers at CTV, and each has tremendous experience in coordinating crews, budgets, locations and clients (and anything else you can throw at them!) Working closely with the Unit Manager, your production manager will keep you up to date with the progress of your production, in terms of crewing, budget and logistics. Being office based, they are a key contact and available 9-6 daily. With their own assistants in the office, they are able to take much of the stress and workload away from production companies, as they coordinate the logistics and finance aspect of any crew we employ on your behalf.
